INFLUENZA Serological Tests for Swine Inflnenza-Like Infections in Man C h il e . — A preliminary serological survey with A/Swine/Ws/67 (Hw lN i) antigen carried out in March 1976 in Santiago has shown the following results:

These results show that the population below 30 years of age do not have antibodies and that only a low percentage of those in the age group 30-39 (bom 1935-1946) have come in contact with the antigen. Antibodies were present in a high proportion of those older than 50 years and usually in high titre. In some cases among those over 60, antibodies against the neuraminidase (N) antigen were found in very high titres. S r i L a n k a . — Fifty-six sera from normal persons of various age groups from the Colombo south area were titrated in HI tests against four units of A/Mayo Clinic/103/741 antigen. In persons over 30 years antibody titres o f 40 or more were found in 18 out of 35 sera (51.5%). The highest number of positives occurred in the 58-64 and 65-75 years age groups. The highest titre of anti body was 640 in a person of 67 years. The youngest person with antibody titre of 40 was 40 years of age. No antibody to this virus was found in those under 30 years (Table 1).

Sri L a n k a .
