DEPENDENCE LIABILlTY OF " NON-NARCOTIC " DRUGS 55 SULFONMETHANES The three compounds listed (S 136-S 138; TableX) constitute a group of old drugs that are quite toxic and relatively ineffective.221 222 There appears to be little production or use. The literature, all of which is old, concerning abuse of these drugs mostly deals with their direct toxic effects and not with dependence potential, which is rated as low. None of the three compounds has had adequate evaluation in experimental animals. REFERENCES 221. Goodman, L. S. & Gilman, A., ed. MISCELLANEOUS AGENTS This is a heterogeneous group of agents of low efficacy as sedatives or hypnotics (S 139-S 158; Table XI). With the exception of hydroxyzine (S 146), production and sales have been quite low. No reports of abuse were found. None of these drugs has had a thorough examination for dependence potential, which must tentatively be regarded as quite low or non-existent for all members of the group.
