MALARIA SURVEILLANCE

SURVEILLANCE DU PALUDISME

Indonesia. — A total of 84 deaths resulted from an outbreak of malaria which occurred from April to July 1978 in a village of SouthEast Sulawesi. This village belongs to a subdistrict of more than 4 500 inhabitants, and an investigation carried out by the Regency Health Services revealed that practically the entire population of the subdistrict suffered from malaria. Vectors prevalent in the area were Anopheles barbirostris and A . sundaicus. Remedial action was undertaken during June-July 1978 and consisted of spraying all houses and drug treatment.

I ndo nésie . — Un total de 84 décès a été enregistré à la suite d ’une flambée de paludisme qui a frappé un village du sud-est de Sulawesi entre avril et juillet 1978. Ce village fait partie d ’une sub­ division administrative de plus de 4 500 habitants, et une enquête faite par les services de santé locaux a révélé que la quasi-totalité de la population de la subdivision souffrait de paludisme. Les prin­ cipaux vecteurs étaient Anopheles barbirostris et A . sundaicus. Des mesures antipaludiques — pulvérisation d ’insecticide dans toutes les habitations et chimiothérapie — ont été appliquées en juin et juillet 1978.
