During J 976, ten laboratory-confirmed cases of animal rabies occurred in two of the 12 cities included in the programme on the Mexican side of the border. This incidence is one of the lowest recorded in the period 1966-1976. On the American side of the border in 1976, 100 rabid animals were reported from 13 of the 26 counties having a common frontier with Mexico. (There were 40 bats, 33 skunks, four foxes, one coati mundi and one coyote among wildlife and 18 dogs and one cat among domestic animals; two animals were not specified).
