NOMINATION OF THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR Article 52 of the Constitution of the World Health Organization provides that the head of the Regional Office shall be the Regional Director appointed by the Executive Board in agreement with the Regional Committee.1 The appointment of the incumbent Regional Director for the Western Pacific, Dr Shin Young-soo, comes to an end on 31 January 2014. Therefore, the Regional Committee should consider at this current session the nomination of the Regional Director for the period of five years beginning 1 February 2014, to enable the Executive Board to consider the matter before then, at its 134th session. The procedure of the nomination of the Regional Director is governed by Rule 51 of the Rules of Procedure of the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific, resolution WPR/RC61.R3 which provides, inter alia, for a sixty-minute interview of the candidate(s) and the Code of Conduct for the Nomination of the Regional Director of the Western Pacific Region of the World Health Organization, which was adopted by resolution WPR/RC63.R7. This agenda item will be considered in two parts during closed meetings on Monday, 21 October 2013. In the morning session, the modalities for the interview will be discussed. In the afternoon session, the interview and nomination process will be completed.
