MPRESSES sa t i s fac t ion fo r tne sustained e f fo r t made by many Member States i n the regional and global eradication progranrmc e i t he r through effect ive planning and execution of the plans of action, through inter-country co-ordinaticn and co-operation, o r through voluntary contriWtions t o the Malaria hradication Special Account and par t ic ipat ion i n the 'aO-stamp-issue project, 8. REITERATES the importance of givlng malaria eradication a high pr io r i ty i n the health programing of Member States not only i n re la- t ion t o the benefits gained i n each country, h t a lso t o f u l f i l an international obligation towards neighbouring couatries that may be more advanced i n t h e i r eradication schemes; 3. CONGRATULATES the Regional Director on h i s e f fo r t s to f i l l the needs of Member S ta tes by providing advisory professional personnel, strengthening the t ra in ing a c t i v i t i e s i n the Region and by promoting inter-country co-ordination and evaluation of malaria eradication programmes ; 4. EXPRESSES appreciation fo r the assistance provided by UNICEF and b i l a t e r a l agencies t o Member States i n t h e i r eradication programmes, a t the same time taking note of the new co-ordinated pol ic ies of WHO, UNICEF and ICA i n continuing assistance t o countries where annual evaluation shows good prospects of accomplishing eradication, as well a s i n providing a id within l imi t s to developing countries which a re undertaking pre-eradication programmes concomitantly w i t h the establish- ment and expansion of ru r a l health services and other development schemes; 5. DRAWS the a t ten t ion of Member States t o t he necessity t o co-ordinate t h e i r malaria eradication a c t i v i t i e s with the ru r a l health services, and assure the co-operation of the medical profession and the public through appropriate l eg i s la t ive measures, a s well a s through intensif icat ion of health education ac t iv i t i es , with the objective of strengthening the act ive surveillance system a s well a s to f a c i l i t a t e the future work of the public health service during the maintenance phase: 6. REeUESTS the Regional Director t o s t inu la te and support applied research on problems facing the malaria eradication prograrane i n the Eastern Mediterranean Region, especially i n connexion with nomadism and effect ive control of t he loca l vectors under various circumstances, and t o make available to a l l Member States information on the s tudies carried out on these problems both i n t h i s Region and elsewhere.
