MARBURG VIRUS — A case o f Marburg disease has been diagnosed in a young man returning from Kenya on 11 January 1990. H e fell ill with haemorrhagic fever on 16 January. Filovirus has been iso lated and antibodies against Marburg virus were demonstrated on 5 February. T he patient is still severely ill and being treated in an intensive care unit. An epidemiological investigation is being carried out by the Nauonal Bacteriological Laboratory, Stockholm and regional officials. The authorities in Kenya have been notified. Sw e d e n . S uède.
VIRUS MARBURG — Un cas de maladie de Marburg a été diagnostiqué chez un jeune adulte rentré du Kenya le 11 janvier 1990 et tombé malade le 16 janvier avec une fièvre hémorragique. Un filovirus a été isolé, et des anticorps contre le virus Marburg ont été mis en évidence le 5 février. Le malade est toujours dans un état grave et il est soigné dans une unité de soins intensifs. Une enquête épidémiologique est actuellement réalisée par le Labo ratoire national de Bactériologie, Stockholm, et les fonctionnaires régio naux. Les autorités compétentes du Kenya ont été informées.
