TUBERCULOSIS SURVEILLANCE R o m a n ia . — In a period of 15 years (1960-1975) tuberculosis incidence declined from 58 765 newly registered cases to 21 036. In terms of incidence rates, tuberculosis represented 319.3 in 1960 and 99.0 per 100 000 population in 1975 (31 % of the rate o f 1960). In the same interval the prevalence o f all tuberculosis cases passed from 1.19 to 0.46% of the population. The temporary disability caused by tuberculosis of the respiratory system represented 56.7 days of working incapacity for 100 em ployees in 1971, whereas in 1975 this figure dropped to 51.2. Tuber culosis of other organs gave a temporary disability o f 9.4 days in 1975, as compared with 69.6 days for acute respiratory infections, 23.7 days for pneumonia, and 11.2 days per 100 employees for chronic bronchitis-emphysema-asthma. While in 1965 the number of deaths due to tuberculosis of the respiratory system accounted for 4 567 (24 per 100 000 population), in 1972 there were 2 698 deaths (13.1 per 100 000 population). In 1975, the network of health services provided an average of 0.14 consultations for tuberculosis and approximately 1.5 million BCG vaccinations.

SURVEILLANCE DE LA TUBERCULOSE R o u m a n ie .
