GRIPPE OMS de — 1 Les souches isolées pendant la saison 1973-1974 en République fédérale. d ’Allemagne, à Porto Rico et au Royaume-Uni ont été soumises à des épreuves d'inhibition de l’hémagglutination dont les résultats sont présentés au Tableau 1. Ces souches forment une collection hétérotypique et les virus A actuellement en circulation présentent une instabilité antigènique considérable. C ’est le sérum anti A/Port Chalmers/1/73 qui donne le plus large éventail de réactions croisées avec les virus de 1973-1974 soumis aux épreuves. Il est permis de se demander s’il faut voir dans l’extrême variabilité actuelle des virus un signe d’une fin prochaine de la souche Hong Kong. D irecteur du

Strains isolated in the Federal Republic of Germany, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom during the 1973-1974 season have been tested by haemagglutination inhibition. The results are shown in Table 1. The strains form a heterotypic collection and there is considerable antigenic lability in the current influenza A viruses. Antiserum to A/Port Chalmers/1/73 virus gives the broadest cross-reactions of any of the 1973-74 viruses included in the tests. It is interesting to speculate whether the current high level of variability indicates the approaching end of the Hong Kong era. ‘ See No. 14, p. 121.
