INFLUENZA A ustralia (information dated 18 June 1971) — An outbreak of influenza m a family was observed in the Melbourne metropolitan area at the beginning o f June A strain of virus A was isolated on 9 June from one o f the patients F in lan d (information dated 19 June 1971). — 1 There have been no further reports o f the sporadic cases and small outbreaks of influenza associated with virus B, which had occurred m different parts of the country up to the week ended 12 June

H ong K ong (information dated 5 June 1971) — 1 The scattered influenza outbreak associated with virus A2/Hong Kong/68 (variant A2/England/878/69), which started in mid-March, reached its peak by the end of May Eight cases associated with virus A2 were confirmed by the laboratory for the week ended 5 June, against 12 for the week ended 29 May and five for the previous week.
