INFLUENZA SURVEILLANCE H ong K ong (24 August 1981). —1 Sporadic cases have continued to occur since the end of February 1981. Influenza A/Bangkok/l/79(H3N2) virus was prevalent up to the end o f June but, in July and August, most strains were o f the H1N1 subtype which had not been detected since July 1980. These strains are being further investigated. WHO C ollaborating C entres fo r R eference and R esearch on I nfluenza . A tlanta .and L o n d o n . - Among the recently investi gated influenza A virus strains, some of the A(H3N2) subtype have, unexpectedly, shown to be most like the A/Texas/l/77(H3N2)-vanant. Such strains were submitted from Australia, from South-East Asia (Indonesia) and China, Province of Taiwan, and from the Car ibbean (Trinidad and Tobago). The influenza A(H1N1) strains have mainly been similar to A/England/333/80(HlN 1) but a few were like the A/lndia/6263/80(HlNl)-variant. Such strains have been submit ted from Australia and New Zealand and from countries in SouthEast Asia (Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand) and the South America (Suriname) The influenza B viruses have been similar to B/Singapore/222/79. Some were from India, isolated in an outbreak in March 1981, and one each were submitted from New Zealand and Malaysia. 1Sec No 3, p 22

SURVEILLANCE DE LA GRIPPE H o n g K ong (24 août 1981). 1 Voir N° 3, P- 22
