20TH MEETING OF THE HEPA EUROPE STEERING COMMITTEE COPENHAGEN, DENMARK, 19 JUNE 2013 HEPA Europe European network for the promotion of Health-Enhancing Physical Activity 25 September 2013 Executive summary 1. Background and overview The 20th meeting of the Steering Committee of HEPA Europe was convened to review progress with implementation of the 2012/2013 work programme and to update on relevant international developments. In addition, the applications for membership received since the last meeting were assessed and two pending applications were further discussed, based on a pre-meeting with WHO’s Governance and Multisectoral Partnerships. Input was also given to the preparations of the 9th annual meeting and 4th conference in October 2013 in Helsinki, and one application to host the 2014 meeting was assessed. In addition, strategies with regard to the short- and medium-term funding were discussed, and the development of a communication strategy for HEPA Europe was continued. The meeting was chaired by Willem van Mechelen from the VU Medical Center, the Netherlands and attended by 10 members of the Steering Committee in person and by 3 members via Skype, as well as by one staff member from the WHO Regional Office for Europe. The meeting was kindly hosted by the WHO Regional Office for Europe, Governance and Multisectoral Partnerships, and assisted by the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine of the University of Zurich. 2. Evaluation of applications for membership Two of the three new applications received since the last meeting were supported by the participants. These applicants will become temporary members and will be proposed to the network for confirmation at the 9th annual meeting on 24 October 2013 in Helsinki, Finland. On one application further information will be sought. A final decision on two pending applications was also taken. 3. Update on recent, relevant activities and developments Updates were given on the ongoing activities at the international level, including: • activities of the WHO • activities of the EU • other international activities Report - summary 20th meeting of HEPA Europe Steering Committee 2 4. Work programme 2012/2013 and funding Participants took note of the update on the state of affairs on the implementation of the work programme. They also further discussed ideas regarding the short- and medium-term funding for HEPA Europe. 5. Annual meetings of HEPA Europe An update on preparations of the 9th annual meeting and 4th conference in October 2013 was given. The meeting will be hosted by the Fit for Life Program and the UKK Institute for Health Promotion Research. An expression of interest to host the annual meeting 2014 was assessed and supported. 6. Other business and next meetings of the Steering Committee The Steering Committee will hold a brief informal meeting on 21 October 2013 early afternoon before the start of the annual meeting and conference. Dates for the 2014 meetings will be identified by online survey.
