REGIONAL COMMITTEE Fifty-third Session

Provisional Agenda item 18 SEA/RC53/4 13 June 2000

TIME AND PLACE OF FORTHCOMING SESSIONS OF THE REGIONAL COMMITTEE FIFTY-FOURTH SESSION The Regional Committee, at its fifty-second session, held in September 1999, decided to hold the fifty-fourth session of the Regional Committee in Myanmar in 2001 (resolution SEA/RC52/R4). Accordingly, the Regional Director proposes to make suitable arrangements to convene the session in Myanmar in September 2001. The Government of the Union of Myanmar may wish to reconfirm its invitation to enable the Regional Committee to decide on the venue and time of the fifty-fourth session. The session of the Regional Committee for South-East Asia is normally held in the second week of September so as not to overlap with the sessions of the other Regional Committees.

FIFTY-FIFTH SESSION The invitation of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to host the fifty-fifth session in Indonesia in 2002 was noted by the fifty-second session of the Regional Committee (resolution SEA/RC52/R4). The Government of the Republic of Indonesia may wish to confirm its invitation to host the fifty-fifth session of the Regional Committee in September 2002.

FIFTY-SIXTH SESSION The fifty-sixth session of the Regional Committee is proposed to be held in the WHO Regional Office, New Delhi, in September 2003. In considering such proposals, the Committee may keep in view the resolution of the Seventh World Health Assembly (WHA7.26) which recommended: “ … .that, in deciding on the place of their meetings, Regional Committees should consider holding them from time to time at the site of the Regional Office, taking into account the costs involved for the Organization and the Member States concerned.” These decisions will enable the Regional Director to make appropriate adjustments in the programme budget for the biennium concerned.
