Each o f WHO’s six regions has been requested to select two Member States for membership o f the Management Advisory Committee for a three-year term from early 1999. The Regional Director therefore invited Member States of the European Region to submit candidates for membership by 1 July 1998. It will also act as an advisory body to the Director-General, making recommendations on matters related to the policy, strategy, finance, management, monitoring and evaluation o f the Programme. It shall have the following functions: (a) review the programme o f work and related budget o f the Programme and make appropriate recommendations to the Director-General; (b) review arrangements envisaged by the Director-General for financing and managing the Programme; (c) review proposed longer-term plans o f action and their financial implications; (d) review financial statements o f the Programme; (e) review periodic reports evaluating the progress o f the Programme towards the achievement o f its objectives and submit its findings and recommendations to the Director-General; (f) recommend ways o f improving, as appropriate, coordination between the activities of the Programme and o f other relevant programmes and organizations; and (g) consider any other matters relating to the Programme referred to it by the Director-General, the Programme Manager o f the Programme or any member o f the MAC. EUR/RC48/6 Add. 1 page 5 Annex 2 M e m b e r s h i p o f t h e M a n a g e m e n t A d v i s o r y C o m m i t t e e o f t h e A c t i o n P r o g r a m m e o n N a t i o n s f o r M e n t a l H e a l t h The Management Advisory Committee (MAC) shall have the following membership: (a) the governments o f those countries which contributed funding to the general budget o f the Programme in the previous fiscal year; (b) two Member States from each o f WHO’s six Regions selected by the respective Regional Committees for three-year terms from among those Member States with which the Programme is collaborating, and; (c) international organizations o f the United Nations system collaborating in the implementation o f the Programme’s objectives. The identity of those countries contributing funding in support o f the Programme’s general budget and those providing bilateral support in the above manner, and hence their eligibility for membership in MAC, shall be ascertained annually. Members selected from the six Regions o f WHO may be reselected. The international organizations shall be considered to have permanent seats for as long as they continue to collaborate with the Programme.
