SMALLPOX A r g e n t in a . — Following the importation of a case of smallpox, the health administration has notified an outbreak of 21 cases (alastrim) which occurred in the Misiones Province, 25 de Mayo Department, Colonia Alicia, between 24 and 30 May 1970. Five of these cases have been confirmed in the laboratory. Contain­ ment action, including vaccination in the affected area, has been taken. E d it o r ia l N o t e . During 1967, Argentina notified 23 cases of smallpox, two of which were imported from Brazil. No cases were notified for the years 196S/1969.

VARIOLE A r g e n t in e . — A la suite de l’importation d ’un cas de variole, l’administration sanitaire a notifié une épidémie de 21 cas (alastrim) qui est survenue dans la Province de Misiones (Département 25 de Mayo, Colonia Alicia) entre le 24 et le 30 mai 1970. Cinq de ces cas ont été confirmés par les examens de laboratoire. Des mesures d ’endiguement, comprenant la vaccination dans la région atteinte, ont été prises. N ote d e l a r é d a c t io n . En 1967, l’Argentine a notifié 23 cas de variole dont deux cas importés du Brésil. Aucun cas n ’a été signalé pour les années 1968/1969.
