WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION R e g io n a l O f f ic e f o r E u r o p e C o p e n h a g e n REGIONAL COMMITTEE FOR EUROPE Forty-ninth session, Florence, 13 - 17 September 1999 DRAFT RESOLUTION EUR/RC49/Conf.Doc./12 14 September 1999 13259 ORIGINAL: ENGLISH H u m a n it a r ia n A s s is t a n c e t o t h e P o p u l a t io n o f Ea s t T im o r The Regional Committee, Considering: (a) the extensive recent experience within the European Region of the suffering caused by armed conflict; (b) the global nature of the United Nations’ and WHO’s humanitarian commitments; (c) the current dramatic situation o f the population of East Timor, most of whom are in difficult or refugee conditions and lack access to food and essential health care; 1. EXPRESSES its deep sympathy with the people o f East Timor; 2. APPEALS for: (a) the immediate deployment in East Timor of urgent humanitarian assistance, including food and health care personnel and resources; (b) the good will of European governments and nongovernmental organizations in supporting these humanitarian efforts.
