PLAGUE F rance. — 1 The patient, a 27-year-old male, left Bombay on 13 June 1970 and arrived in Marseilles on 15 June by air via Tel Aviv, Athens and Rome, in company with 25 other crew members of an oil tanker. He originates from Madras but lived in Bombay for three months in a hotel prior to his departure for Marseilles.

PESTE F rance. — 1 Le malade, un homme de 27 ans, a quitté Bombay le 13 juin 1970 et est arrivé à Marseille le 15 juin par avion via Tel Aviv, Athènes et Rome, en compagnie de 25 autres marins pour rejoindre un pétrolier. Originaire de Madras, il vivait depuis trois mois à Bombay dans un hôtel quand il a pris l’avion pour Marseille. Le diagnostic clinique de peste a été posé le 16 juin; le malade présentait alors un état fébrile modéré avec adénite inguinale dou­ loureuse du côté gauche. Une ponction ganglionnaire a permis la confirmation du diagnostic par examen microscopique direct et culture. La souche isolée a été envoyée au Centre national de Référence pour la Peste, la Pseudotuberculose et la Tularémie. Le malade a été traité par la streptomycine et les sulfamides; tous les signes cliniques ont disparu en quatre jours. Voir N» 25,'t>. 273 e t N« 31, p. 326.

The clinical diagnosis of plague was made on 16 June when the patient had moderate fever and painful inguinal adenitis on the left side. A gland puncture specimen was positive on direct microscopy and culture. The isolated strain has been sent to the National Reference Centre for Plague, Pseudotuberculosis and Tularemia. The patient was treated with streptomycin and sulphonamides and all clinical signs subsided in four days. 1 See No. 25, p. 273 and N o. 31, p. 326.
