INFLUENZA S o u t h A f r ic a (situation on 26 June 1970). — 1 2 The outbreak associated with virus A2/Hong Kong/68 which started about midMay in the environs of Johannesburg is still continuing after reaching its peak by the end of May (this information is based mainly on a survey of respiratory disease among hospitalized Bantu children).2

In Johannesburg, a few influenza cases among adults have been notified, and a survey of respiratory disease in hospitalized children indicated that an outbreak of influenza started by the end of May.
