ACUTE HAEMORRHAGIC CONJUNCTIVITIS IN THE WESTERN PACIFIC Further reports on acute haemorrhagic conjunctivitis in the Wes tern Pacific indicate that the epidemic began in the Solomon Islands in mid-October 1981. It spread to other islands and peaked at the end of November-beginning of December 1981. In addition to the eight islands reported earlier,1 Pago Pago and Tokelau also experienced outbreaks. All age groups and large segments of the populations were affected: attack rates varied between 20% (Fiji) and 90% (Samoa) in the different islands. Attempts to isolate a virus from collected spe cimens have proved difficult, as in other parts o f the world2 Labo ratory investigations are continuing. 'See No 3, p 22. : See No 50, 1981, p. 396.

1Voir N° 3, p. 22 2Voir N° 50, 1981, p. 396.
