CHOLERA SURVEILLANCE — On 6 May 1982 a tourist arrived from Bangkok with diarrhoea and vomiting. Her symptoms which were later confirmed as cholera due to V cholerae El Tor serotype Inaba had appeared on 4 May, two days after her arrival in Bangkok from Beijing. Five of the group of 130 tourists on the same tour were also found to be V. cholerae excreters but there were no secondary cases in the group nor carriers among any of the contacts. Prompt detection and isolation of the case and general sanitary measures were again found adequate for prevention of disease transmission. H ong K ong H ong K o ng

SURVEILLANCE DU CHOLÉRA — Le 6 mai 1982 une touriste est arrivée de Bangkok avec de la diarrhée et des vomissements. Les symptômes avaient débuté le 4 mai, deux jours après son arrivée à Bangkok en provenance de Beijing; les examens ont confirmé ultérieurement qu’il s’agissait d’un cas de choléra dû à V. cholerae El Tor sérotype Inaba. Cmq des 130 touristes qui avaient effectué le même tour émettaient aussi K cholerae, mais il n’y a pas eu de cas secondaires dans le groupe ni de porteurs de germes parmi les contacts. Il s’est confirmé que le dépis­ tage précoce et le prompt isolement du cas, associés à des mesures sanitaires générales prévenaient efficacement la transmission de la maladie.
