FCTC/MOP/1/22 24 July 2018 Date and place of the second regular session of the Meeting of the Parties Report by the Convention Secretariat Purpose of the document This document concerns the date and place of the second regular session of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP) to the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products. Action by the Meeting of the Parties The MOP is invited to determine the date and place of the Second session of Meeting of the Parties, taking into the account the date and place of the Ninth session of the Conference of the Parties to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control as decided by Eighth session of the Conference of the Parties. FCTC/MOP/1/22 2 BACKGROUND 1. Article 33.2 of the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products (Protocol) provides that regular sessions of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP) to the Protocol shall be convened immediately before or immediately after regular sessions of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, and taking into account the decision of the Eighth session of the Conference of the Parties regarding the date and place of the Ninth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP9), the MOP may wish to consider and, as appropriate, to decide on the date and place for its second session. PROPOSED DATES OF THE SECOND SESSION OF THE MOP 2. The following dates, 2−5 November 2020, for the Second session of the Meeting of Parties to the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products (MOP2) have been proposed by the Convention Secretariat, based on venue availability. ACTION BY THE MEETING OF THE PARTIES 3. The MOP is invited to determine the date and place of MOP2, taking into the account the date and venue of COP9. FCTC/MOP/1/22 3 Annex Draft decision on the date and place of the second regular session of the Meeting of the Parties The Meeting of the Parties (MOP), Considering that the sessions of the MOP to the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products (Protocol) shall be held immediately before or immediately after the regular session of the Conference of the Parties to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control following the entry into force of the Protocol, in accordance with Article 33.2 of the Protocol; Taking into account that the Eighth session of the Conference of the Parties has decided to hold the Ninth session of the Conference of the Parties on (dates) in (place); 1 DECIDES that the Second session of the Meeting of the Parties shall be held over four days and take place from (dates) in (place). = = = 1 The starting date of the MOP2 will be one day later than the COP9 and the actual dates and place to be added in accordance of the decision of the COP9.
