E gypt (3 March 1988). — Influenza A(H3N2) virus has been isolated from 1 of 20 sporadic cases of influenza-like illness in young adults investigated since mid-December 1987. R om ania (29 March 1988). — The number of cases of influenza-like illness increased slightly in the second week of March. Sporadic cases and small localized outbreaks have been reported. Influenza A(H3N2) virus was isolated from a 3-year-old child during one outbreak and from 15 cases in premature infants during another. In addition, influenza B virus has been isolated from a sporadic case in a 9-year-old boy. U nited S tates of A m erica (30 March 1988). — 1 Most indi­ cators of influenza activity declined in the week ending 26 March after 3 weeks at a relatively high level. Isolation of viruses and widespread influenza activity are however still reported in a few states. Influenza A(H3N2) which caused most of the outbreaks this season has now been isolated in 48 states and the D istria of Columbia, influenza B in 25 states and influenza A(H1N1) in 14. .Y ugoslavia (22 March 1988). — 2 Increased incidence of influenza-like illness was noted, mainly among schoolchildren, in different parts of Croatia at the beginning of March. R oum anie (29 mars 1988). — Le nombre des cas d’affection de type grippal a légèrement augmenté au cours de la deuxième semaine du mois de mars. Des cas sporadiques et de petites poussées localisées ont été signalés. Le virus grippal A(H3N2) a été isolé chez un enfant de 3 ans au cours d’une poussée et chez 15 nouveau-nés prématurés au cours d’une autre poussée. En outre, le virus grippal B a été isolé chez un cas sporadique concernant un garçon de 9 ans. E tats-U n is D’A m érique (30 mars 1988). — 1 La plupart des indica­ teurs de l’activité grippale ont décliné au cours de la semaine ayant pris fin le 26 mars après s’ëtre maintenus à un niveau relativement élevé pendant 5 semaines. Toutefois, des isolements de virus et une activité grippale étendue sont encore signalés dans quelques Etats. Le virus grippal A(H3N2), à l’origine de la plupart des poussées observées cette saison, a maintenant été isolé dans 48 Etats et le virus A(H1N1) dans 14 Etats. Y ougoslavie (22 mars 1988). — 2 L ’incidence des affections de type grippal a augmenté, surtout chez les écoliers, dans différentes parties de la Croatie au début du mois de mars.
