DIPHTHERIA C h il e . — From the beginning of the year to 15 May 1976, 143 diphtheria cases were notified, representing a considerable increase over the 99 cases reported for the same period in 1975. The provinces of Concepcion, Bio-Bio, Valdivia and Osorno accounted for 33% of these cases—an increase o f 300% over 1975 incidence levels. An analysis of the coverage of DPT vaccinations in 1975 indicates that levels of 76% for the third dose and 28% for the fourth dose were attained. For DT vaccinations a coverage level of 71% was reached for children in their first year of elementary school and 97% for children in their last year. The coverage o f the DPT vaccination programme over the last few years has been inadequate and the relatively low number of «vaccinations has left many children without a satisfactory level of immunity.

DIPHTÉRIE

C hili .
