Technical Discussions: Selection of a subject for the Technical Discussions to be held prior to the Sixty-fourth Session of the Regional Committee The attached document SEA/RC63/7 lists the subjects of the Technical Discussions held since 1998 in conjunction with the respective sessions of the Regional Committee. It also provides a list of proposed subjects for the Technical Discussions to be held prior to the Sixty-fourth session of the Regional Committee in 2011. The High-Level Preparatory (HLP) Meeting held at the Regional Office in New Delhi from 28 June to 1 July 2010 reviewed the proposed subjects for the Technical Discussions, and after deliberations, recommended that the Regional Committee should consider the topic of “Strengthening of community-based health workforce in the context of revitalization of primary health care” as the subject for Technical Discussions to be held prior to the Sixtyfourth session of the Regional Committee in 2011. The working paper and the HLP recommendation are submitted to the Sixty-third Session of the Regional Committee for its consideration.

2. In selecting a subject for the Technical Discussions to be held prior to the Sixty-fourth session in 2011, the Committee may wish to consider the following subjects: (1) (2) (3) (4) Tobacco control – meeting the obligations of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC); Teaching of public health at undergraduate level in medical schools; Strengthening of community-based health workforce in the context of revitalization of primary health care; and Occupational health: Formulation of policy and strategy
