An Act to provide for the payment out of money provided by Parliament of expenditure incurred by the Secretary of State or a government department under, or in connection with, the Windrush Compensation Scheme.

Be it enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

Expenditure on the Windrush Compensation Scheme

There may be paid out of money provided by Parliament expenditure incurred by the Secretary of State or a government department under, or in connection with, the Windrush Compensation Scheme.

“The Windrush Compensation Scheme” means the scheme published by the Home Office on 3 April 2019 which provides compensation for certain categories of persons in recognition of difficulties arising out of an inability to demonstrate lawful immigration status (as that scheme is modified from time to time).

Extent, commencement and short title

This Act extends to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

This Act comes into force on the day on which it is passed.

This Act may be cited as the Windrush Compensation Scheme (Expenditure) Act 2020.
