<level xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" class="para1" eId="section-2-1-a"><num>(a)</num><content>conduct scientific research;</content></level>

<level xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" class="para1" eId="section-2-1-b"><num>(b)</num><content>develop and exploit scientific knowledge;</content></level>

<level xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" class="para1" eId="section-2-1-c"><num>(c)</num><content>collect, share, publish and advance scientific knowledge.</content></level>

<subsection xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" eId="section-2-2"><num>(2)</num><intro>In exercising its function of supporting others, ARIA may, in particular—</intro><level class="para1" eId="section-2-2-a"><num>(a)</num><content>encourage, facilitate and provide adv

<level xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" class="para1" eId="section-2-2-a"><num>(a)</num><content>encourage, facilitate and provide advice;</content></level>

<level xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" class="para1" eId="section-2-2-b"><num>(b)</num><content>provide financial support by way of grants, loans, investments in companies or other entities, or in any other form (including prizes);</content></level>

<level xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" class="para1" eId="section-2-2-c"><num>(c)</num><content>make available rights or other property (including by way of loan, licence or gift or other transfer).</content></level>

<subsection xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" eId="section-2-3"><num>(3)</num><content>Where ARIA provides financial support, or makes property available, it may do so subject to conditions.</content></subsection>

<subsection xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" eId="section-2-4"><num>(4)</num><intro>The conditions may, in particular, include provision under which—</intro><level class="para1" eId="section-2-4-a"><num>(a)</num><content>financial support is to be repaid or otherwis

<level xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" class="para1" eId="section-2-4-a"><num>(a)</num><content>financial support is to be repaid or otherwise made good (with or without payment of interest);</content></level>

<level xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" class="para1" eId="section-2-4-b"><num>(b)</num><content>property is to be restored;</content></level>

<level xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" class="para1" eId="section-2-4-c"><num>(c)</num><content>information is to be provided to ARIA for the purpose of the exercise of any of its functions.</content></level>

<subsection xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" eId="section-2-5"><num>(5)</num><content>The activities which ARIA may do, commission or support in exercising a function are not restricted to activities in the United Kingdom.</content></subsection>

<subsection xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" eId="section-2-6"><num>(6)</num><intro>In exercising its functions, ARIA must have regard to the desirability of doing so for the benefit of the United Kingdom, through—</intro><level class="para1" eId="section-2-6-a"><num>(

<level xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" class="para1" eId="section-2-6-a"><num>(a)</num><content>contributing to economic growth, or an economic benefit, in the United Kingdom,</content></level>

<level xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" class="para1" eId="section-2-6-b"><num>(b)</num><content>promoting scientific innovation and invention in the United Kingdom, or</content></level>

<level xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" class="para1" eId="section-2-6-c"><num>(c)</num><content>improving the quality of life in the United Kingdom (or in the United Kingdom and elsewhere).</content></level>

<section xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" eId="section-4"><num>4</num><heading>Grants to ARIA from the Secretary of State</heading><subsection eId="section-4-1"><num>(1)</num><content>The Secretary of State may make grants to ARIA.</content></subsection><subsection eId

<subsection xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" eId="section-8-1"><num>(1)</num><content>The Secretary of State may by regulations make provision for the dissolution of ARIA.</content></subsection>

<subsection xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" eId="section-8-2"><num>(2)</num><content>Regulations may not be made under this section within ten years after the date on which this Act is passed.</content></subsection>

<subsection xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/legaldocml/ns/akn/3.0" eId="section-8-3"><num>(3)</num><intro>Before making regulations under this section, the Secretary of State must consult—</intro><level class="para1" eId="section-8-3-a"><num>(a)</num><content>ARIA, and</content></lev
